Now - But Spooky

Spooky Season! Nothing too scary though here.
Creating
I've made nothing and almost exclusively had the drive to sit on the uncomfortable couch and watch movies when not working. There have a been a few attempts at blog posts and side projects, but things have come up, or they've been put on the back burner, or they aren't quite ready to be shared (still pre-scrappy fiddle even).
Consuming
"Consumed" a whole bunch of stuff, but nothing that quite fits into the standard reading/watching/whatever. The stuff I have watched was good, but not much noteworthy home and stood out as noteworthy. La La Land was great, but if anything was too depressing when watching while in the midst of a dull draining grind at work, much like vibe the the leads drop to pursue their dreams. The conclusion of them reaching their dreams is a bit punch in the gut. The massive dance numbers and music and colors are all fantastic, and I would still recommend it if you're looking for an overall encouraging film (so long as you like jazz).
Explored
I did go to a corn maize and a renn faire. Both with great friends, can recommend both as fantastic fall activities.
- For the Renn faire, dressing up is a fantastic idea and one of my favorite parts, but not required.
- For the maize, I like to get lost and wander, but checking off all the boxes on the map can be fun too.
D&D for the first time. I was so bad at improvising. It was great. Can't wait for the next session.
Listened
Because they all talked :)
Splash had plenty of good talks, some of which I was able to catch live, and most of which I'm still making my way through. I'm not a programming language builder (atm), but I am a programming language consumer. I appreciate the thought that goes into the tools I use, and enjoy the exploratory research and innovations that could be incorporated back into my daily programming life, as well as the approaches to demoing and research that were fantastic.
Considering
The World
Exploring a world of my own creation. Unsure the upcoming outcomes of it all, but ideas are percolating and there are a lot of directions it could go.
More Thoughts
In addition, while not a programming language builder, I've been thinking about comparisons between software engineering, and machining. Specifically the building of tools in order to build the product, which is common from there. Depending on the scale we'd call it abstraction, or a wrapper, or a framework, or a helper function, but either way it's a tool, that helps achieve an end goal. The main difference seems like it's sometimes impossible for the machinist to build the product without the helper tool, whereas we can often build the product regardless of the helper tool.
I've enjoyed building these inner-working tools, and I think that's part of why I enjoy the programming language talks, future of coding discussions, and various alternative views into computing. I'm looking forward to the upcoming talks from HANDMADE for more thoughts along this line.
