Photography

I've posted a few photos to the #MonochromeMonday feed on mastodon, building up confidence to post of my photos more that I like in the process.

The blacksmith workshop, freshly built for the seasons renaissance faires.

Pylons in silhouette.

Silhouette of a traffic stoplight, with pylons in the background.

These are obviously all monochrome photos. Not all the photos I've been taking have been, but I feel like the best ones have all been along these lines. At the very least it's easier to appreciate the composition within this limitation, and from there worry about nailing the rest of the fundamentals.

For the technical side, they have all been taken with the Acros+R simulation on my X-E5, with no editing out after the camera (aside from converting to jpg from heif, which is apparently not supported by mastodon). I have no point of comparison for how accurate it is to the original film, but I like how it looks. Maybe some day I'll give the real film a shot.

Project MoonBig

I've updated the moon in the top right corner yet again. No more SVGs, now a couple of circular div's that shift based on the phase of the moon. Expect a few more changes, possibly some bugs, and a brief but more detailed post on that in the near future as it's been a fun little project.

The old world of tech is dying and the new cannot be born

Baldur Bjarnason's piece resonates with life right now. Partially because I'm going through a "This changes everything!" moment, having been laid off recently. And partially because I'm looking at the world and coming to similar conclusions about it all. I'm not sure what to do about it. At the very least I'll avoid despair, stay constructive when I can.

Watching

TRIGUN STAMPEDE

Saw some excitement for the new season on mastodon, and I see why the excitement was there. I love the gun slinging hero who refusal to kill. The western sci-fi concepts and aesthetics spread throughout the show are wonderful. It's a little odd at times and the writing feels off occasionally. But then there are some absolutely beautiful scenes, or wild moments of action that let me excuse the odd storyline.

TRIGUN STARGAZE, the follow up series, didn't cover those odd writing flaws with flashy animation quite as well, but it was an alright watch.

How this climate conference secured a breakthrough

Simon Clark does generally positive, or at least realistic but hopeful communications on climate science, and this month I was happy to hear about this new conference.

Countries of the world met together plan actions without the concerns of fossil fuel based economies included in the conversation. Known as a "coalition of the willing", their discussions focused on actions which would be taken by attendee countries to achieve their goals for carbon. Collaboration and sharing strategies to improve outcomes for all involved. Renewable sources are an up front cost for low maintenance, no fuel, long term stable energy. They more or less keep working once they're setup. Adopters don't need to care about fossil fuels after that.
